Crotone is part of the Alto Crotonese DOP area for extra virgin olive oil, known for its fruity aroma and balanced taste. A truly local delicacy is Sardella,a spicy fish paste made from baby anchovies or sardines blended with chili pepper and salt—often called "the poor man's caviar." Other typical items include jars of pickled vegetables, spicy chili sauces, and crushed olives seasoned with herbs.
